Our new doo's

I took the girls and I to get haircuts today at my cute cousin Tiffany's salon. She does such a great job! I was really nervous about cutting length off of Katie's hair because her hair is so long and beautiful but I have a hard time doing it. It turned out so cute, I LOVE it!!

Thanks Tiffany!!

Its always gets worse before its gets better... right???

My house has officially been a mess now for 3 weeks since we started remodeling/updating. We are now done finished painting the living room and bedroom but I don't really have any decorations up yet so I will wait and post some pictures until I'm totally done.
Last week Greg tore all the tile out of our bathroom and started putting new tile in. We are getting new countertops next week and Greg is still sticking with his plan to be done by Oct 3rd.
Things are going pretty smoothly but we'll see if he can keep full steam ahead till then.
I will be the happiest woman in the world as soon as I can use my own bathroom again!

Holding on to summer!

I love fall but I'm not ready to be done with Summer yet. I love that it is still warm during the day and that we are still wearing shorts. I love the flowers in my yard and my Garden. I took a few pictures so that in a few more weeks when it is cold and the grass goes brown I can remember how nice it was!

Amy update

I talked to Amy today and she is doing well. They have no power and she said they may not for a few weeks so I thought I would post for her since she can't obviously blog (must be killing her!!!)
She said things are pretty bad, lots of damage around and supplies are short. Lots of stores can't even open because of lack of power. Luckily they can shop at the base since Michael and his dad are both military. They also have a plug on their truck that they have been using for some power. I'm sure she will have lots of pictures and stories to tell once she can get her computer on again. In the meantime I'll pass along any news I hear.

Note to self: GET MY FOOD STORAGE restocked!!!

Its about time the toilet received a modern makeover

The toilet has remained pretty much the same since the invention of indoor plumbing. But the Chinese really think outside the box and have really got something here!

Modern Toilet is a restaurant in Taipei. This is an actual real place!!! It accommodates 100 seats with each made from toilets. The specialties at the restaurant are sink faucets and the food is served in mini plastic toilet bowls. The toilet rolls that serve for wiping hands and mouth are hung above the tables- which resemble glass-topped sinks or bathtubs.

They say presentation is everything

cozy little atmosphere... I sortof think it would make me have to pee all the time, I wouldnt make a great dinner guest.

I don't really get this picture- is that the bathroom right there in the open???

This is just plain gross! I like chocolate ice cream but I'd have to pass

I found the funniest post while blog hopping today on the picky palate.
I had to share...
Now I'm going to go clean my toilets!

Funny how the word catastrophic can make you loose so much sleep

My sister Amy was in the direct path of Hurricane Ike. Mike is working in Galveston and luckily they weren't moving their until the end this month, they are still living with his parents outside of Houston. We were so worried about her but she is fine! She called yesterday and said it was the scariest thing she has ever been through and a huge tree on their property got blown over but that the house and family all survived.
I stayed up really late Friday night watching the weather channel and couldn't sleep very good that night thinking about it so first thing Saturday morning I turned the weather channel back on and was relieved to hear that it wasn't as "catastrophic" as they kept saying it was going to be.
We love you Amy and Michael and we are glad you are safe!

Design to sell

No we aren't moving but my sweet husband decided that it would be fun to pretend like we are and fix up our house to sell. We love watching HGTV and love how they can make pretty small changes and the BIG difference it makes in their houses. There are so many unfinished projects in my house (if you remember my post a few months back that got me in big trouble!) And I haven't been able to get my dear husband to make any headway on them- that is until it was his idea! Imagine that!
So last week we started replacing all the baseboard/trim in our living room/hallway and painted. It has been a lot of work but we are almost done with this room and the plan is to move onto the bedroom next. Its crazy because our house is only 6 years old but there were always things we wished we had done differently in the design of it. So now we are changing some of those things so that we can be happy living for a long long time!

Katie is so cute - each morning she wakes up and wants to see what we've done while she's been asleep. The first morning we asked her if she liked what we had done and she said: "I LOVE it- you moved the TV closer to the couch so I can see it!" (we had to scoot the TV away from the wall to paint behind it). What a silly girl-now that it has been this way for a few days she might be very sad when the TV gets moved further away from the couch.

These are the only pics I have so far of the remodel but I will post some finished pictures- when we get it done!

making new friends

I always swore that I wouldn't be one of those moms that does everything with their first kid and by kid #2 or more you stop doing all those fun things.... Well unfortunately I have been horrible about getting Brielle in playgroups or activities like Katie was already doing at her age. But finally this morning, while Katie was in preschool, Brielle went to a really fun playgroup with about 7 other girls her age in the neighborhood. I wish I would have taken my camera because it was so cute to see all these little girls play together. Brielle was so excited but I don't think she understood what "playgroup" meant- I believe she thinks that is a persons name because she has been saying all day "It was so fun to play wit' my new fwend playgroup today"

Then we went to the grocery store this afternoon and the bagger girl Sarah was talking to the girls. I didnt really listen to their conversation because I was checking prices and paying etc... So on our way to the car Brielle says "My new fwend Sarah likes Belle!"

Prima Ballerina's

Last week Katie and Brielle went to their first dance class. I have been wanting to enroll at least Katie for a long time and when I talked to the instructors they said I could bring Brielle and see how she does. Well.... I'm not sure I will have her go every week for a while. She mostly just ran around but they both looked so cute!

Great Hyte's Preschool

(4 years old)
Today was Katie's first day at Mrs Emily's preschool. Katie is so excited to be going to preschool with all of her friends from the neighborhood. Almost everyone that still lives here from the original playgroup we started when Katie was only 1 year old is in her class and from our preschool last year! Plus some new fun friends.
