BYU Womens Conference 2008

I was so lucky to be able to go to just the Friday session of this years BYU Women's Conference. It was not an easy decision to make with so much to be done around here (We are getting sheet rock hung in the basement on Monday!! more on that later)- But I finally decided that I really needed this day to do something for myself. Thanks to my mom and Grandma for watching the kids (as well as 2 of Shari's kids, and Kenelle and her friend- they had 6 kids all day THANKS!!!) I hitched a ride with Rachel Bush and her sister in-law's and then met up with Jen, her mom, cousin, and aunt. It was SO worth it. I am so impressed and amazed at the hoards of women, mothers, grandmothers etc... that come to spiritually grow from each other. The classes and speakers were all awesome.

The first session was all together in the big Marriot center and Sister Beck the RS General president spoke to us. She said that with knowledge of truth comes the responsibility to act. We will be held accountable for what we have done with what we have been given. But the actual act of service is not what is most important it is what happens to our hearts as we serve and the what happens after the service to those who receive it that is the most important!!! I really liked when she said INFLUENCE IS WOMANHOOD- We have our half to do and we cannot delegate it!

The second session we choose a class on feeding our souls, and filling our hearts with personal prayer. Sisters Ashton and Davies taught this class and I really needed this class! I am not always the best about personal prayers and its silly that such a simple thing can be made so difficult. Sister Ashton really hit home to me when she said that prayer is a simple choice you need to only make once. Then just do it! We can't expect to only use prayer when we need something- she made the analogy "you can't make an ATM withdrawl without first making a deposit"

The third session we headed back to the Marriot center because we wanted to secure our seats for the final session to hear Pres Monson. So we attended a class on Modesty called "My body is a temple goad has given me"- I really found this class more interesting than I thought. I really don't' struggle with modesty myself but with two young girls its something I need to be thinking about teaching them through example and direction. The speaker talked about not allowing your young children to wear things that you wouldn't allow a teenager to wear. Sometimes that is hard because they looks so cute and little shirts that show their bellies or chubby legs but when do you draw the line. It was very interesting!

The fourth session we stayed and attended the class on a partnership of equals in marriage. The couple that taught this session was so cute! I liked how they said that a great marriage doesn't happen overnight it takes years of growing together through experiences. I know that Greg and I are happier and more in love now than when we first were married and I hope that trend continues!!

Then came the BEST part of women's conference. President Monson came to talk to us!!! It was so awesome when he walked into the arena and everyone started to sing "We Thank Thee o God For A Prophet"- I started to get teary eyed. President Monson has always been my most favorite apostle. Even though I loved Hinkley I was so excited when he became our prophet! I loved his message on finding joy in life and living everyday as if it was a special occasion! because once you've missed out on something its gone. Heavenly father knows that we learn and grow through trials and hardships and he also knows our ability to endure.

If you missed this years Women's Conference you can watch some of the session be rebroadcast on KBYU I think at the end of May- you'll have to check the listings! It would be well worth it!

Jen and I in our matching shirts! Nope we didnt plan it but we sure looked cute! I guess these are the pitfalls of shopping together and both having great taste!!!

That's fun you could attend. I have never gone, but have heard a lot about it this year, so maybe I'll try to attend next year. It sounds great!

One more thing...I left Jen a message about this too and I think you both should come. On Monday from 11am-2pm at Adela Borden's house (9032 Wild Acres.) there is a big spring boutique. Bring your girls...there will be tons of fun things to get! Hope to see you there. Sorry to leave this message on your blog!
